Lino Printing Christmas Cards (Autumn 26)

Linocut is a wonderfully satisfying printmaking technique that produces bold, characterful images with a warmth no digital print can match. Working with simple tools and soft lino, you’ll carve your own design, ink up your block, and pull prints you’ll be genuinely proud to send.

Over the course of the day, we’ll explore the basics of the craft — from transferring and adapting a design onto lino, to the satisfying business of cutting, inking, and printing. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who has tried printmaking before, the session is pitched to work for everyone, with Tom on hand to guide you at every stage.

Our seasonal robin and leaf design is provided as a starting point, but you’re warmly encouraged to bring your own sketches, photos, or images for inspiration — a favourite winter bird, a sprig of holly, a seasonal scene. As part of the process we’ll work together to translate your ideas into something that works beautifully as a linocut, because not every image transfers directly to print — and discovering that creative translation is part of the craft itself.

This course takes place in the Art Studio. Please note that regrettably this room is not accessible to wheelchair users due to necessary fire evacuation regulations. The main entrance is level access. On your right, there is a button to open the automatic door to the Café Bar. Head forwards into the Gallery, turn right up the ramp and proceed through two sets of double doors (please note there is no automatic button to open these doors). Please be aware that there are low ceilings and low door frames in this area. Turn right and proceed up the stairs (six steps, a landing, and then seven steps). Proceed through the doors straight ahead, then another set of doors straight ahead, and turn right through another door into the Art Studio.
