Programming Policy

The Mill Arts Centre is a small multi-artform venue with big ambitions. We are the only dedicated multi-arts and performance venue in the Cherwell District. Our 237-seat theatre plays host to theatre, dance, comedy and music events which run alongside a packed creative learning and participation programme with a focus on visual and performing arts.

We programme around 120 ticketed events a year alongside regular community hires and up to 12 visual arts exhibitions.  Our public performance programme is overseen by the Arts Centre Director and Programme and Marketing Manager and consists of professional productions and community hires.  We present a diverse range of shows that complement the arts ecology of Banbury and the region, with a particular emphasis on showing the best in contemporary performance, innovative classics and quality family work.

Alongside our core programme of drama, comedy, live and original music we’re interested in building audiences for contemporary theatre, new writing and dance.

We are currently developing our film programme to include independent and foreign language films alongside mainstream titles.

We select artists and companies to work with based on the content and style of their work, if we feel it is a good fit for our programme. We attend festivals and showcases, meet artists, listen to recommendations from other professionals and see as many individual performances as we can, all of which identify people we want to work with.

Our live programme is usually booked 6-9 months in advance.

Likewise, our gallery space is programmed between 6-9 months in advance, with a focus on local artists and exhibitions that link into our live programme.  We host two showcases for our students each year and provide the opportunity for one emerging local artist to exhibit during Artweeks which takes place annually in May.

If you are an artist or company and you are interested in bringing your work to The Mill please contact the Programme and Marketing Manager (see contacts page for details).
