Loop System
Please note, we do not have a Hearing Loop system at The Mill.
Familiarisation Visits
We are pleased to offer familiarisation visits on request for anyone who would like a relaxed opportunity to familiarise themselves with the space and ask any questions they may have about their visit. If you would like to arrange a familiarisation visit, please contact the Duty Manager via 01295 279002 or the Operations Manager at esther.bartholomew@themillartscentre.co.uk
Carer Tickets
Any customer who requires a carer to attend an event will be entitled to a free ticket for the accompanying carer. Please note that these tickets can only be issued to customers who would not be able to attend an event without the support of a carer. It is not the case that any customer with a disability is entitled to a complimentary ticket for others in the party.
Dog-friendly
Our Café Bar is dog-friendly, and we’re happy to welcome well-behaved dogs. Please note that dogs are not permitted during performances, classes, or workshops—except for assistance dogs, who are always welcome.
If you need to bring an Assistance animal to a performance, class or workshop please contact the box office on 01295 279002 or boxoffice@themillartscentre.co.uk
Assistance animals are expected to be suitably trained and appropriately insured.
Toilets
Gallery Left (Ground Floor)
The main entrance has level access. On your right, there is a button to open the door to the Café Bar automatically. Head forwards through the arch into the Gallery, turn immediately left and proceed forwards. Turn left through a single door to the toilets.
The first door on the right is the men’s toilets which is all level access and has a single stall and urinals. There is a pillar in the middle of the room.
The door straight ahead is the women’s toilets which has a step up (with a grab rail) to two stalls.
Gallery Right (Ground Floor)
The main entrance has level access. On your right, there is a button to open the door to the Café Bar automatically. Head forwards through the arch into the Gallery, turn right up the ramp and proceed through two sets of double doors (please note there is no automatic button to open these doors). Turn immediately left. Please be aware that there are low ceilings and low door frames in this area.
The first door on the left is the men’s toilets which is all level access and has a single stall and urinal.
The second door on the left is the women’s toilets which is all level access and has two stalls.
The door straight ahead is the inclusive toilets (76cm door which opens outwards) which is all level access. There is a raised toilet with grab rails and an emergency cord. This toilet also has baby changing facilities.
First Floor Toilets
From the main entrance: The main entrance has level access. Before going through the double doors into the Café Bar, turn left and there is a step, a short corridor and another step. Proceed up the stairs which have seven steps, a landing area, and another seven steps. Turn left at the top of the stairs through the single door, then proceed straight ahead. The door on the left is the women’s toilets and the doors on the right is the men’s toilets.
From the Art Studio/Long Room: From the main landing next to the Long Room, go up seven steps, along the long corridor and then down seven steps and turn immediately right.
The women’s toilets are flat floor with two stalls.
The men’s toilets are flat floor with one stall and one urinal.
2. Theatre
Wheelchair or Level Access Requirements
The main entrance is level access. On your right, there is a button to open the automatic door to the Café Bar. Head straight forwards through the archway into the Gallery. The theatre entrance is in the upper part of the Gallery which is accessed via a ramp or via two steps. There are two sets of double doors into the Theatre with a short corridor in between (please note there is no automatic button to open these doors).
If you would like to book a wheelchair or access space, please contact the Box Office to book your tickets. For seated performances, wheelchair users can either book a wheelchair space, or transfer into a level-access seat – please contact the Box Office to arrange on 01295 279002 or boxoffice@themillartscentre.co.uk
- For standing performances, there is level access throughout the auditorium
- For seated performances, there is level access for rows A, B and C
- For cabaret style performances, there is level access for table seats or the first row of the seating rake
- Rows D and above are all only accessible via stairs up the central aisle. There is no handrail.
Seat Width
For seated events in the theatre, our seats are 42cm wide within the armrests, with fixed (non-moving) armrests.
Accessible performances
Some of our performances have additional measures in place, and details will be shared on each event page where applicable. There include:

- British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted or integrated
3. Courses & Workshops
Activities taking place above the ground floor – including the Art Studio, Long Room, Dance Studio and Millers’ Room – are only accessible via stairs due to the historic nature of the building.
If you have any accessibility requirements, please contact the Duty Manager via 01295 227181 before booking, or contact the Operations Manager via esther.bartholomew@themillartscentre.co.uk so that we can discuss how we may be able to make alternative arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
For example, we may be able to:
- Arrange for a team member to assist you and/or your equipment up the stairs
- Arrange a familiarisation visit
- Provide a visual story
- Where possible, explore alternative locations for activities on a case-by-case basis
- Discuss any other arrangements that may be useful
- We are actively working to improve accessibility across the programme and we welcome your feedback.

Art Studio

Please be aware that there are low ceilings and low door frames in this area. Turn right and proceed up the stairs (six steps, a landing, and then seven steps). Proceed through the doors straight ahead, then another set of doors straight ahead, and turn right through another door into the Art Studio.
Long Room
The main entrance is level access. On your right, there is a button to open the automatic door to the Café Bar. Head forwards into the Gallery, turn right up the ramp and proceed through two sets of double doors (please note there is no automatic button to open these doors). Please be aware that there are low ceilings and low door frames in this area. Turn right and proceed up the stairs (six steps, a landing, and then seven steps). Proceed through the doors straight ahead, then turn left and proceed through the double doors into the Long Room.
Millers’ Room
The main entrance is level access. Before going through the double doors into the Café Bar, turn left and there is a step, a short corridor and another step. Proceed up the stairs which have seven steps, a landing area, and another seven steps. Turn left at the top of the stairs through the single door, then turn immediately right through another single door into the Millers’ Room. Please be aware that there are low ceilings in this area. There are eleven pillars throughout the room, and a single step up to a small stage area.
Dance Studio
The main entrance is level access. Before going through the double doors into the Café Bar, turn left and there is a step, a short corridor and another step. Proceed up the stairs which have seven steps, a landing area, and another seven steps to the first floor; then go up another set of stairs which have seven steps, a landing area and another seven steps to the second floor. Turn left at the top of the stairs through the single door, then turn immediately right through another single door into the Dance Studio.
Lock Room
The main entrance is level access. On your right, there is a button to open the automatic door to the Café Bar. Head forwards through the arch into the Gallery and turn immediately left. Straight ahead there is a single door (74cm wide) which leads into the Lock Room. Please be aware that there are low ceilings in this area. There are two pillars along the centre line of the room.
Gallery
The main entrance is level access. On your right, there is a button to open the automatic door to the Café Bar. Head straight forwards through the arch into the Gallery. The upper part of the Gallery is accessed via a ramp or via two steps.
