This one-day workshop offers an exciting introduction to the essentials of modern landscape painting. Students will experiment with expressive brushstrokes, explore adding mixed media elements using water-soluble coloured crayons, and work with various paint applications to discover their effects. The morning session includes exercises that focus on recognising tonal values and understanding the foundational shapes within a landscape, providing a solid base for the afternoon’s creative work on primed cardboard.
The workshop is designed for individuals of all skill levels and is particularly beneficial for those wishing to loosen up their style and pursue a more modern way of painting but are uncertain how to begin. This session will offer a structured and fun approach to something that often feels intimidating and out of reach and these techniques can be applied to all different types of subject matter. Students will leave with plenty of sketches and paintings as well as a tool kit of approaches that can be applied to their own practice.
All necessary materials will be provided; however, attendees are welcome to bring their own brushes if preferred.

The main entrance has level access. On your right, there is a button to open the door to the Café Bar automatically. Head forwards into the Gallery, turn right up the ramp and proceed through two sets of double doors (please note there is no automatic button to open these doors). Please be aware that there are low ceilings and low door frames in this area. Turn right and proceed up the stairs (six steps, a landing, and then seven steps). Proceed through the doors straight ahead, then another set of doors straight ahead, and turn right through another door into the Art Studio.
