Work with contemporary artist Rachel Cronin in this two day watercolour workshop designed to introduce you to the world of modern experimental watercolour through a number of playful exercises.
Across these two days, you will have the opportunity to discover the unique qualities of granulating watercolours, acrylic inks, Caran d’Ache crayons and other dry media to create expressive paintings.
Through a series of guided exercises and hands on activities, Rachel will show you how these versatile tools can be used to achieve a range of effects, from bold strokes to subtle washes. Additionally, the workshop will introduce you to the creative potential of inks, such as FW Acrylic Inks and drawing inks from Winsor and Newton, focusing on how to seamlessly blend them with watercolours to create dramatic blooms, layered backgrounds, and expressive detail. You will experiment with incorporating earth tones like Burnt Sienna, as well as granulation mediums, to add depth, richness, and texture to your paintings, transforming simple washes into vibrant and colourful paintings.
Each session of the workshop is designed to be both practical and interactive, ensuring plenty of time for personal experimentation and creative play. You will be encouraged to ask questions and receive individualised feedback tailored specifically to your goals and level of experience. Whether you are a newcomer eager to explore the possibilities of watercolour or a seasoned artist looking to invigorate your practice, this workshop offers a supportive environment to take risks, play with new tools and media, and explore new ways of painting.
